2009-12-14 Again the US FDA found detectable levels in PPB (parts per billion) of several carcinogens in the products of two copycat brands. Ruyan products were not among those tested by the US FDA. Based on these preliminary test results of copycat brands, the US FDA issued a warning about electronic cigarettes, in general, and announced that it would detain imports of e-cigarette products into the US.
An Israeli laboratory was commissioned to test Ruyan products for the same carcinogens found by the USA FDA in copycat products, at PPM level (parts-per-million), and concluded that Ruyan had no detectable levels of these carcinogens at a PPM level. This is significant because safety standards at the PPM level are relevant in many countries AND because the levels of carcinogens found in the USA copycats were, in the case of at least one carcinogen, so high that the detectable level for Diethylene Glycol could almost be measured in PPH – parts-per-hundred!
Based on these results, the Israeli lab report confirms what Ruyan has found in the international (New Zealand) and domestic testing (China) of its products in the past – that Ruyan products are safe for normal use by adult smokers.

2009-10-13 Samples of two copycat brands’ electronic cigarettes found to have detectable levels of carcinogens. BJ SBT RUYAN Technology & Development Co., Ltd (RUYAN), the inventor of electronic cigarettes, hailed the United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) recent warning against unsafe and untested electronic cigarettes. The FDA recently tested the products of two US-based copycat brands’ electronic cigarettes and found detectable levels of carcinogens in both brands.
Hon Lik, the Vice Chairman of BJ SBT and Ruyan Group (Holdings) Ltd and the inventor of the electronic cigarette, praised the FDA for vigilantly protecting consumer safety. "Ruyan invented the electronic cigarette to address the smoking pandemic – people all over the world are literally choking on the smoke produced by traditional cigarettes. As the inventor of the electronic cigarette, we are thoroughly committed to a long-term vision and to providing a product to adult smokers that is free of the dangers of the 4,000 chemicals released in the burning of traditional cigarettes."
Unlike the exaggerated claims of numerous, illicit, copycat manufacturers of the electronic cigarette and its associated products, Ruyan has had extensive tests conducted by independent labs and research organizations to verify that its products do not contain harmful tobacco-related chemicals and are therefore safe for normal use. Over the last four years, several respected independent research institutions have conducted reviews of Ruyan electronic cigarette products, including The Institute of Radiology & Radiation Medicine of the Academy of Military Medical Science of China; The Tianjin Center for Disease Control & Prevention, The Chinese Center for Disease Control & Prevention, and Health New Zealand Ltd, headed by Dr. Murray Laugesen. In addition to these safety tests, BJ SBT has conducted over 40 product and components tests with an accredited PONY laboratory for every component used in Ruyan products.

RUYAN, the inventor of electronic cigarette, hailed the July 27,2009 announcement of The Patent reexamination Board of the State Intellectual Property Office of the PRC that completely invalidated a utility patent that numerous China-based illicit manufacturers of electronic cigarettes and accessories have referenced in their communications with public. The patent was invalidated on the basis of having violated Ruyan's intellectual property rights to the essential technology and design of the electronic cigarette. Patent No.200520031712.6, entitled, "A kind of Pure Cigarette" was invalidated on the basis that the releated technical claims had "...no substantive features nor a notable progress, ie. no inventiveness.", in accordance with Paragraph 3, Article 22, Patent Law of the People's Republic of China2009-08-26 WWW.RUYANDIRECT.COM NOT AFFILIATED WITH RUYAN! RUYAN will continue to take actions against companies that violate its trademark rights, as we have in the past with some 12 websites that illegally used the RUYAN name. While such cases are proceeding, RUYAN would like to remind the public that only approved distribution channels are allowed to sell RUYAN products. RUYANDIRECT.COM is in no way related to RUYAN and will be shown to be in clear violation of RUYAN’S trademark rights. 2009-05-12 RUYAN Prevails in 2nd lawsuit against copycat manufacturer. Another Copycat Manufacturer of Electronic Smoking Alternatives Ordered to Pay Damages and Destroy Inventory RUYAN announced on May 12, 2009 that it has successfully asserted its intellectual property rights to the essential technology and design of the electronic cigarette in a recent legal proceeding in China. In a decision rendered by a court in the People's Republic of China on March 30, 2009, RUYAN prevailed in a lawsuit against Shenzhen Islion Technology Co. ("Islion"). As a result of the decision, Islion was required to pay compensation to RUYAN for damages and agreed to stop producing, selling and promoting its products that infringed upon RUYAN's Utility Model Patent Right "EMULATION AEROSOL SUCKER", No. 200620090805.0, registered in the name of RUYAN's Vice Chairman, Mr. Han Li (Hon Lik). The ruling was the second of what RUYAN expects to be a series of such decisions; the company has initiated similar actions against other copycat China-based manufacturers and won a similar case in January. 2009-04-28 Ruyan in the Los Angeles Times - "A high-tech approach to getting a nicotine fix"
